Ghana Here I Come

Despite all of my frequent flyer miles and various travel destinations there was one albatross that hung over my neck. That is, I have had a burning desire to visit the origin places of our people. While I have been to both South Africa and Tanzania, those have missed the mark to satiate me simply because we know that Ghana and Nigeria are the lands from where our ancestors were “imported” from.  While I know Nigeria is a place we hail from, and that I would love to go to, time and has not afforded me an opportunity for it to place to be a  destination for me as of yet. Nevermind the steady insistence from people who I know (including Nigerians) to make a pass on going there. However, thanks to the African network I am connected to, fortune is allowing me an opportunity to visit Ghana. I can’t say that I am buzzing with excitement. That’s not quite the feeling to describe my current state. I believe quiet contentment has fallen over me even in advance of this adventure.  My main goal is to meet and get to know people. Personal connections on my travels are important to me, speaking to locals is worth more to me than excursions and activities. So I am looking forward for a chance to commune and meet our distant cousins and learn about their lives.  It’s time to pack and get focused. Hopefully when I return I will find the strength and time to come back here and share words about my experience.
